Hydrogen, king of the elements
The birth of chemistry, the future of energy

This is a non-systematic non-textbook. The title says it is about hydrogen. However, hydrogen is the pretext rather than the aim. Indeed, this element is most widespread in the Universe, its compounds abound on surface Earth life depending on them, it plays an important role in present day chemical industry (fertilizers!)  and it is hoped to transform the energetics of the near future (energy carrier!). All these are discussed in the book to some extent. But all these: the history and the properties of the substance, and of the atom, its compounds, and reactions, relevant basic laws and eventual applications are used to serve one single aim, the understanding  of basic physical chemistry. Simple as hydrogen may be its discussion still cannot offer a “royal road” to physical chemistry. The reader is hoped to regard the text as a small pond which, although differs greatly from the sea, has waves of the same kind and also it reflects the surroundings in a similar way.
