Mathematical competitions in memoriam Tamás Varga 3. (1998-2002)
Tamás Varga was one of the leading figures in mathematics education through decades, who did not believe in mathematical "tone-deafness". He made "hated mathematics" nice and attractive for many pupils just on the basis of wondering and on the desire of discovery. The competitions were organized in the spirit of his memory giving an opportunity to lower school children between 12 and 14 years of age to compare their knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The contests may turn out to be the start of a scientific career for a number of them.
